Overview

The Annapurna Circuit trek is a true classic! Trekkers from near and far have hailed it as one of the best itineraries in the world with its visit to Thorong La Pass, amazing mountain vistas and pristine areas of natural beauty.
 
There are certainly challenges along the way to reach our maximum elevation of 5416 meters; the Thorong La Pass is a tough feat but believe us when we say, it is worth the effort! When you witness the panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas and experience the warm welcome from the local people, you will surely agree with us that this trek is not to be missed.
 
The route takes us to the districts of Manang and Mustang, the only Nepali districts “across” the mountains and completely surrounded by the Annurpurna Range. We follow the River Marsyangdi from the beginning, all the way to Thorong La Phedi, crossing its crystal, icy waters many times on impressive suspension bridges.
 
You can try the tasty, crisp apples in Marpha, experience the mischievous winds in the Jomsom Valley and cast your eyes on the world’s deepest gorge that lays between the giants of Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri. Along the way, we visit the oldest monastery in Nepal and traditional Gurung and Thakali villages steeped in culture and Buddhist and Hindu religious rituals.
 
Have you ever fancied bathing in natural hot spring to relax your muscles after a long day trekking? Well you’re in luck when we reach Tatopani, jump in and replenish your body. Fuel your energy with what Nepali’s have hailed “the best daal bhat “ in the country at Ghorepani and sample the local apple pie, cider and brandy in Marpha. This is a trek into a Tibetan influenced wonderland, come along and enjoy the ride!

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Nepal!
 
Activities: We will meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel, just relax for
the rest of the day to recover from your long journey.
 
Highlights: Bustling Thamel, an array of restaurants, bars and shops.

Day 2: Meeting with trekking guide, last minute shopping for your trek and Kathmandu sightseeing.
 
Highlights: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa, Swaymbhunath and Patan Durbar Square, cultural and historical sights of the Kathmandu Valley.
 
Accommodation: Kathmandu 3 star hotel.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

Terrain: Gradual inclines through fields, well-defined paths.

Highlights: Walking by some beautiful waterfalls.
 
What’s to see?: The local farming village of Bahundanda, the Marsyangdi River.

Day 5: Dharapani.

Difficulty: Moderate.
 
Elevation reached: 1910m.
 
Terrain: Riverbank tracks, narrow gorges, rocky trails.
 
Views on offer: Colourfull waterfalls, crashing onto the rocks below.
 
Highlights: Crossing the River Marsyangdi on impressive suspension bridges.
 
What’s to see?: Huge bee hives hanging from the trees.

Highlights: The pretty spectacular views, the sweet smelling apple orchards and getting to taste the apples!

Terrain: Forest paths, gentle inclines, riverbank trails.
 
Views on offer: Pisang Peak, Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II.
 
Highlights: Looking back over the wide, river valley, an optional trek to Upper Pisang for some great views.
 
What’s to see?: A very unique and colorful monastery, traditional mountain houses.

Day 8 : Manang. (2 available routes today, your guide will give you the choice.)
 
Hours of walking: 7 hours for upper trail, 5 hours for lower trail.
 
Difficulty: Moderate (lower trail) difficult (upper trail)
 
Elevation reached: 3540m.
 
Terrain: Some steep inclines and rocky tracks on the upper trail, “Nepali flat” and gentle inclines on the lower trail.
 
Views on offer: The Annapurna range.
 
Highlights: The upper trail really does give you magnificent views of this beautiful mountain range.
 
What’s to see?: Traditional villages, the local Gurung people and the interesting village of Manang.

Day 9: Day hike to Gangapurna Lake and back to Manang. (Acclimatization day.)

Terrain: Some steep inclines, hilly terrain and quick descents.
 
Views on offer: Many snow-capped peaks.
 
Highlights: The beautiful Lake, standing atop of a ridge at 4000m for stupendous views.
 
What’s to see?: The traditional houses in Manang, local Buddhist monastery.

Terrain: Dry, grassy hills, gradual inclines.
 
Views on offer: Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal and Tilicho Peak.
 
Highlights:  The tranquility and fresh mountain air.
 
What’s to see?: The village of Gunsang, wild blue sheep and yaks.

Highlights: The views of course!
 
What’s to see?: The village of Thorong Phedi.

Hours of Walking: 7.5 hours.

Elevation reached: 3800m at Muktinath and 5416m on the Thorong La Pass.
 
Terrain: Up hill rocky paths, there maybe snow depending on the time of year and a steep descent to Muktinath.
 
Views on offer: The most alluring, magnificent views from the Pass.
 
Highlights: Standing in the icy wilderness of the Thorong La Pass. Congratulations on reaching this high alpine wonderland.
 
What’s to see?: Mountains, as far as the eye can see!

Highlights: The holy places of Muktinath and Kagbeni and the pilgrims visiting the holy waters and temples.
 
What’s to see: The 108 taps and holy waters, Muktinath temple and the oldest monastery in Nepal in Kagbeni.

Day 14: Trek to Jomsom and a 6 hour drive to Tatopani by local bus.
